Location

This late 18th century property enjoys a peaceful and relaxing hilltop position with striking views, just 4km from the picturesque medieval village of Lauzerte (all shops and services, supermarket, restaurants, market on Wednesdays and Saturdays). Lauzerte is classified as one of the most beautiful villages of France and boasts beautiful dovecotes, mills and chapels. The interesting towns of Cahors and Villeneuve-sur-Lot both straddling the Lot River are within easy reach (41km and 55km). Montauban (36km) with its Ingres museum and Moissac (26km) with its spectacular Saint-Pierre abbey (famous for its cloisters) are well worth exploring.

Tennis and horse riding are possible in Lauzerte, and bike hire in Montcuq (16km). There is a skydiving school in Bouloc (10km), canoeing and kayaking on the Lot River in Puy-Levêque (56km), leisure lakes for swimming in Montcuq and Montaigu (20km). The Lot and the Tarn Rivers offer good fishing possibilities. There are a 9 hole golf course in Sauveterre (16km) and an 18 hole course in Castelnaud-de-Gratecambe (64km).

The Tarn-et-Garonne

A 14th century bridge, with seven pointed arches, stands at Montauban, the principal town of the département of Tarn-et-Garonne. Montauban, one of the earliest bastides in France, is remembered as the birthplace of the 19th century painter, Jean-Auguste Ingres, the last of the great French Classicists. The Ingres Museum, originally the château of the Black Prince, when England owned Aquitaine, has some of his most painstaking works. They show how Ingres was a perfectionist to the point of obsession, recording costumes and accessories in astonishing detail.
